Interview with Jacob 'Jack' Thompson, who completed national service as a pilot between 1948 and 1951. He remembers the experience of flying Spitfire aircraft with 603 Squadron at RAF Turnhouse.
Jack Thompson remembers his national service call-up, training as a pilot with 3 Flying Training School at RAF Spitalgate in Harvard aircraft and his conversion to Spitfires with 57 Operational Training Unit. He remembers flying Spitfire IX aircraft with 603 Squadron at RAF Turnhouse, including night flying and interception. He describes the use of towed drogues for gunnery training, remembers leaving the RAF and gives his views on national service.
