Hucks Starter
Most aircraft engines had to be started by swinging the propeller by hand until Captain Bentfield Hucks invented the Hucks Starter just after the First World War. It could start engines more quickly and with less risk of accidents.
The Hucks Starter is a Ford Model T chassis fitted with a clutch-driven drive shaft powered by the vehicle's engine, which started an aircraft's engine by turning the propeller. Hucks Starters were widely used during the 1920s and 1930s and this example incorporates many original parts.
