RAF Officer's 1948 pattern No.2 uniform of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh
The Royal Family are active in their support for and service of the UK's Armed Forces. This uniform was worn by His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, and displays the rank of Marshal of the Royal Air Force.
Despite being a veteran of the Royal Navy in the Second World War, Prince Philip also held ranks and wore the uniforms of the Army and Royal Air Force as part of his role and his royal duties. In addition to his role in the RAF, the Duke served as the Honorary Air Commodore-in-Chief of the Air Training Corps and was a passionate Royal Patron of our Museum. We remember him fondly. The uniform was kindly donated to the Museum by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
