Recorded interview with Chief Technician Peter Jack, 24 May 2022
Peter Jack served with 18 Squadron during the 1982 Falklands War and survived the sinking of the requisitioned cargo ship Atlantic Conveyor, together with three of 18 Squadron’s Chinook helicopters.
Peter Jack remembers serving as groundcrew with 33 Squadron, operating Puma helicopters before converting to the Chinook helicopter. He explains how he deployed for the 1982 Falklands War with 18 Squadron and how the cargo ship Atlantic Conveyor, carrying the squadron’s Chinooks, was hit by an Argentinean Exocet anti-ship missile. He remembers abandoning ship and being rescued by the Royal Navy frigate HMS Alacrity. He then returned to the UK.
