Recorded interview with Flight Sergeant Clive Arnold, 25 May 2022
Clive Arnold served with 18 Squadron during the 1982 Falklands War and survived the sinking of the requisitioned cargo ship Atlantic Conveyor, together with three of 18 Squadron’s Chinook helicopters.
Clive Arnold outlines his RAF career as an airframe rigger, working on helicopters. He remembers joining 18 Squadron in 1981. He explains how he deployed for the 1982 Falklands War with 18 Squadron and how the cargo ship Atlantic Conveyor, carrying the squadron’s Chinooks, was hit by an Argentinean Exocet anti-ship missile. He remembers abandoning ship and being rescued by a Royal Navy helicopter. He then returned to the UK.
