David Jones was an RAF pilot in Lightning and Jaguar aircraft in the UK and Germany. He flew Phantom and F16 aircraft during a United States Air Force exchange tour.

David Jones flew Lightning aircraft with 29 Squadron in the UK and 92 Squadron in Germany. He flew Phantom and F-16 aircraft during an exchange tour with the United States Air Force and Jaguar aircraft with 54 Squadron after returning to the UK. He commanded 54 Squadron and RAF Valley, and served in the Ministry of Defence working in support of the Jaguar and Harrier forces and in flight safety.
