William Pixton was the Officer Commanding No. 41 (Fighter) Squadron at the outbreak of the 1991 Gulf War. The squadron deployed to Bahrain in December 1990 and Pixton was appointed to command the Jaguar detachment. During the combat phase of operations the detachment flew 617 sorties on 156 missions during which no aircraft were lost. For his role in Operation Granby, Pixton was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
