Aircraft movements log of advanced landing ground B2 Bazenville, June 1944
This is a notebook which belonged to Walter James Jarvis, a Senior Flying Control Officer. He coordinated thousands of Allied aircraft during the D-Day landings between June and September 1944
Thousands of Allied aircraft took part in D-Day, often operating from Advanced Landing Grounds (ALG). These were temporary and quick-to-build airfields which offered basic servicing facilities, allowing aircraft to be located closer to the frontline, offering vital support to advancing Allied ground forces. The notebook, which Jarvis kept while stationed at Bazenville ALG, recorded the movements of aircraft arriving and leaving, an important role given the extreme business of the airfield.
