Provide Comfort Combined Task Force badge
Provide Comfort Combined Task Force badge, 1991. Acquired by William Pixton during his RAF service.
During the Gulf War of 1990-1991, Kurdish forces rebelled against the Iraqi regime led by Saddam Hussein. In response, Iraqi military forces began attacking the Kurdish population in northern Iraq, prompting many to flee towards the border with Turkey. An international coalition was formed to provide humanitarian aid, known as Operation Provide Comfort. This operation involved both air and ground forces to protect the Kurds and supply them with shelter. Air operations were conducted from Incirlik Air Base in Turkey and included RAF aircraft.
