Royal Saudi Air Force rank fob
Royal Saudi Air Force rank fob worn by William Pixton when he was serving in Riyadh during Operation Warden.
William Pixton wore this rank fob to identify to his Saudi colleagues his relative rank and avoid confusion as they were not well aware of officer RAF rank braids. Operation Warden was the British designation for Operation Northern Watch, which enforced a no-fly zone over northern Iraq to protect the Kurdish population from attacks by Iraqi forces. Northern Watch succeeded Operation Provide Comfort, with aircraft from the RAF, United States Air Force and Turkish Air Force maintaining the no-fly zone.
