Papers of Flight Lieutenant Robert Edward Lee, 1958-1983
Collection of five flying log books, photographs, certificates and papers relating to the RAF service of Flight Lieutenant Robert Edward Lee.
After qualifying as a pilot Robert Lee was posted to No. 214 Squadron flying Vickers Valiants from 1962-1965. He then converted to helicopters flying the Westland Whirlwind with No. 103 Squadron, 1965-1967. He spent two years from 1972-1974 with the Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force flying a variety of aircraft types. His last operational posting was to No. 24 Squadron flying the Lockheed Hercules, 1981-1984, during which he participated in maintaining the air bridge to the Falkland Islands after the 1982 Falklands Conflict. Among the papers are letters of thanks for the humanitarian aid given during the Cambodian famine relief efforts in 1979.
