Papers of Flying Officer Eric Norman Woods, 1940-1947
Collection is comprised of an air gunner's flying log book, copy of the London Gazette 5 January 1945 and six monochrome prints. Flying Officer Woods trained as an air gunner and served with No. 576 Squadron from August 1944 to January 1945 completing his tour of 30 Operations.
The drawing of the Lancaster commemorating an attack on Duren on 16th November is interesting, as most Bomber Command operations were conducted at night, where this was a daylight attack in support of US ground forces about to attack on a two army front on Duren. This was also unusual in the use of Bomber Command providing tactical support to ground forces.
