Wireless Operator's flying log books of Flight Lieutenant Cyril Kidd, 1941-1961
Two flying log books belonging to Wireless Operator Flight Lieutenant Cyril Kidd document his service history. From June 1942 to November 1943, Kidd served with No. 279 Squadron at RAF Bircham Newton, flying on Air-Sea Rescue operations
The log books detail numerous rescue missions, often noting key observations, for example, the entry for 5 May 1943 reads: "ASR search – dinghy located containing 7 live aircrew; airborne lifeboat dropped for first time – successful." From 1951- 1953 Kidd flew with No. 2 Squadron of the Burmese Air Force as part of the British Services Mission to Burma, which supported the establishment of the Burmese air force.
