Bomber Command clasp
Bomber Command clasp awarded to Flt Lt Frederick Hendry. Hendry completed two tours of operations firstly with No 467 Squadron and then No. 97 Squadron, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on completion of his second tour of operations.
Following the end of the Second World War a Bomber Command medal was proposed but never awarded. For many years veterans, lead by the former Commander-in-Chief, Marshal of the Royal Air Force Arthur Harris, campaigned for recognition of Bomber Command's efforts during the war. In a government review of medals in 2012 it was decided to award a clasp to Bomber Command veterans in recognition of their service. The first clasps being awarded in 2013 to be worn on the 1939-1945 Star ribbon. Flt Lt Hendry passed away in 1999, his family applied for the clasp to which he was entitled.
