Strike Attack Operational Evaluation Unit badge
Strike Attack Operational Evaluation unit (SAOEU) was based at Boscombe Down between 1987 and 2004.
The purpose of SAOEU was to evaluate new and existing equipment and to develop fast-jet ground attack tactics in order to provide advice to front line squadrons. In 2001 it operated three Panavia Tornado ground attack variants, three British Aerospace Harriers and one Sepecat Jaguar. This badge belonged to Harrier pilot Flight Lieutenant Paul Gunnell who served with the unit.
