London Hangar Q.B. was a branch of the Quiet Birdman, an American international social club for veteran fliers. Its chairman was Colonel James Fitzmaurice, an Irishman who had served with the Royal Air Force and served as part of the crew of ‘Bremen’ which made the first trans-Atlantic flight from east to west. Among the guests were the US Ambassador, Air-Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding, Lieutenant-General DD Eisenhower and Squadron Leader J Johnstone
