Combat reports for No.310 Squadron for an engagement with a formation of enemy aircraft over Croydon on 9 September 1940.

Flying Officer John Boulton mentioned in the combat report, joined No. 310 Squadron in July 1940 to help the Czech pilots of the squadron convert to the Hawker Hurricane. when the squadron was declared operational, Boulton requested to stay with the squadron. On 9 September the Hurricane which Boulton was piloting collided with a Hurricane piloted by Flight Lieutenant Gordon Sinclair, also of No.310 Squadron. Out of control his aircraft then hit a Messerschmitt Me 110, the two aircraft then crashed killing both crews. Sinclair managed to bale out and survived. Combat reports were official documents detailing operational encounters with enemy aircraft. They convey both the mental strain of operations and the sense of excitement when victory claims were made.
