Fighter command combat report of No. 64 Squadron for 8 August 1940
Combat reports were official documents detailing operational encounters with enemy aircraft. They convey both the mental strain of operations and the sense of excitement when victory claims were made.
This combat report provides details of an engagement involving No. 64 Squadron on 8 August 1940. 8 August 1940 was one of the final days where combat took place over the English Channel during the Battle of Britain before the phase of the conflict where the Germans looked to focus more attention on RAF infrastructure and airfields. Pilot Officer Peter Frank Kennard-Davis (Blue 3) was forced to bail out during this engagement and this report divulges he was in hospital following this. Tragically, he died from his injuries a couple of days later on 10 August 1940. He was only 19 years old.
