Nose Artwork from Vickers Wellington Z1080
From its earliest days, RAF personnel used artwork on aircraft to boost morale. During the Second World War nose art became increasingly flamboyant.
This artwork adorned the nose of Wellington Z1080 which did not enter squadron service but served Bomber Command in No. 1483 Target Towing and Gunnery Flight and No. 15 Operational Training Unit. However, Z1080 was occasionally called into action, most notably during the spring of 1942 when it participated in the first few ‘thousand bomber’ raids.
