Raytheon Paveway II
Paveway II is a guidance kit which is fitted to a general-purpose unguided bomb. Once released, the seeker head steers the bomb to the designated target by detecting a laser which is directed at the target. Later variants can be guided to their targets by GPS.
Paveway was first used by the USAF in the Vietnam War. The RAF dropped its first Paveway on operations during the Falklands Conflict in 1982. In the intervening decades Precision Guided Munitions (PGMs) such as Paveway became the norm replacing unguided or ‘dumb’ bombs in the RAF.
