Friday the Thirteenth (Artwork from Halifax 'F' LV907)
From its earliest days, RAF personnel used artwork on aircraft to boost morale. During the Second World War nose art became increasingly flamboyant.
Handley Page Halifax III LV907 was the most successful Halifax serving with Bomber Command, completing 128 operations with No. 158 Squadron between March 1944 and April 1945. The aircraft wore the individual code letter âFâ which gained a reputation as being unlucky within the Squadron. The groundcrew, playing on this superstition, added a title and emblems associated with bad luck.
