The Order of the Bath has its origins in the 14th century but was revived by King George I in 1725. The Knight Grand Cross is the highest grade.
MRAF Sir John Salmond had been appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in 1919. In 1931, however, he was promoted to Knight Grand Cross in the 1931 Birthday Honours List of King George V.
