Officer's Full Dress Helmet , Ptn 1921
Full Dress (Home Pattern), also known as Number One Dress, was the RAF’s ceremonial uniform between 1920 and 1939. This helmet belonged to the Marshal of the Royal Air Force, Sir Edward Ellington.
Full Dress was originally worn with a peeked cap but in 1921 the leather and fur helmet was introduced. The helmet did not prove popular with officers, being hot and uncomfortable to wear, while some disliked the design claiming it resembled a baboon's bottom.
