No. 32 Squadron Scoreboard
Traditionally squadrons recorded their performance against enemy aircraft, showing victories, probables and damaged. This scoreboard is from No. 32 Squadron, based at Biggin Hill, a key target for the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain.
It is formed from the wingtip of a Hawker Hurricane Mk I. Between 10 July and 31 October 1940 No. 32 Squadron claimed 49 victories, 25 probables and 14 damaged. The date on the wingtip is unfinished (194–) as those engaged in battle never knew when their final sortie might be. After the war, it was used as a doorstop and only narrowly missed being thrown away as junk.
