7.92mm, MG15
The Maschinengewehr 15 or MG15 was the standard, flexibly mounted 7.92mm rifle calibre machine gun in service with the Luftwaffe form 1932 until 1945.
The MG 15 was used as a defensive gun on a wide range of Luftwaffe aircraft. It had a high cyclic rate of 1,000 rounds per minute and was fed by a distinctive 75 round, double drum magazine. From late 1940, it began to be replaced by the belt fed MG 81 and by larger calibre weapons but it continued in use in second line units and was even adapted as ground weapon.
