Medal Bar of Squadron Leader Clifford Percival Rudland
Clifford Rudland served with No. 263 Squadron from 1940–1942, flying Westland Whirlwinds and Hurricanes. In 1941 he destroyed two Messerschmitt Me 109s in the air and damaged a Junkers Ju 87 on the ground during a sortie in France.
In 1942 he was posted to Vickers Submarine in Southampton as a test pilot. Later he served as a Planning Officer at 11 Group from May to August 1945, before joining the Command and General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Medals, from left to right: Distinguished Flying Cross, rear engraved R for replacement at top and 1941 at base, with bar engraved 1945, 1939–1945 Star with Battle of Britain clasp, Air Crew Europe Star, War Medal 1939–1945, Air Efficiency Award (GRVI), edge impressed FLT LT CP RUDLAND R.A.F.V.R., Distinguished Flying Cross (USA) rear engraved CP Rudland DFC & DFC (USA). Rudland donated his medals to the RAF Museum.
