Medal Bar of Air Chief Marshal Baron Dowding of Bentley Priory
Given his huge influence in the success of the RAF in the Battle of Britain, Sir Hugh Dowding has relatively few medals.
His creation of the Dowding System, the first integrated air defence system, linked the means of detection with the means of interception. It ensured that information could be shared quickly and regularly updated, linking Fighter, Balloon and Anti-Aircraft Commands. His medal bar includes the 1914 Star with clasp War Medal 1914–1918, Victory Medal with Mention in Despatches oak leaf, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939–1945 Silver Jubilee Medal 1935, Coronation Medal 1937, Coronation Medal 1953, King Feisal War Medal (Iraq).
