Air Raid Protection First Aid Box
During the Second World War Air Raid Protection (ARP) Wardens kept first aid boxes at their posts to provide immediate medical assistance following an enemy attack. These boxes contained supplies such as bandages and dressings and a first aid handbook.
Most Wardens volunteered from their local community to join the ARP Department (later known as Civil Defence). They patrolled the streets during blackouts, gave advice to locals, and reported bombings. First aid boxes were essential for Wardens to treat those injured from attacks until they could be evacuated.
