The Order of the Bath has its origins in the 14th century but was revived by King George I in 1725. The Knight Grand Cross is the highest grade.
MRAF Sir Dermot Boyle had been appointed Companion of the Order of the Bath in 1946. In 1957, however, he was promoted to Knight Grand Cross in the New Year Honours List.
