On 16 July 1953 Sir Dermot Boyle was appointed a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order by Queen Elizabeth the Second in connection with the Royal Air Force Review on the occasion of the Queen’s coronation. The Royal Victorian Order was established in 1896 by Queen Victoria and recognises distinguished personal service to the monarch, members of the royal family, the Royal Household and the organisation of important royal events
