Star of the Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Civil Division, of the pre 1937 design. Awarded to Lady Bryon who later became Lady Houston
Awarded to Fanny Lucy Byron, Lady Byron in 1917, for her welfare work amongst women, especially nurses during the First World War. Lady Byron became better known as Dame Lucy Houston, Lady Houston following her third marriage to Sir Robert Paterson Houston, 1st Baronet. She was an outspoken opponent of Ramsay MacDonald and the National Government and a prominent supporter of British aviation, sponsoring the British team for the Scneider Trophy race in the 1930s
