Log Book of Group Captain Douglas Bader
This logbook belonged to Group Captain Sir Douglas Bader. His life was encapsulated in the film 'Reach for the Sky' (1956).
Logbooks were issued to all aircrew and offer a valuable record of day-to-day activities. The entries in this volume record Bader's flights and victories in wartime Britain where as a Hurricane pilot he led No. 242 Squadron, comprised of Canadian pilots. His achievements are even more remarkable as, following a crash in 1931, he lost both his legs. Through sheer determination he flew again to become one of the most well-known pilots of the Second World War. Original material can be viewed in the reading room at the Museum's London site.
