Pilot's flying log book of Captain Olans Charles William Johnsen, 2 April 1917-6 May 1918
Capt Johnsen initially served with the Royal Field Artillery in France until he was wounded in October 1915. After recovering from his wounds he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps and began pilot training.
On completion of his pilot training he became an instructor before being posted to France in June 1918 to No. 98 Squadron, flying the Airco D.H.9. Whilst flying with No.98 Squadron, Johnsen's observers accounted for five enemy aircraft, in October 1918 he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for leading a formation of bombers on a raid against a railway junction.
