The behaviour of air flowing over a wing is illustrated, with emphasis on changing behaviour of airflow when approaching the speed of sound. The advantages of a crescent wing, as used on the Victor, are explained and Sir Frederick Handley Page comments on the crescent wing and planned HP97 airliner.
