Pilot's flying log book of 2nd Lieutenant Edward Arthur Richard Lee, 1918
After completing his training 2nd Lieutenant Lee joined No.98 Squadron in France flying the Airco D.H.9 on bombing operations.
On 30 October No.98 Squadron encountered a formation of enemy aircraft and 10 of the squadron's aircraft were shot down, including 2nd Lieutenant Lee and his observer 2nd Alexander Douglas. Their bodies were never recovered and they are remembered on the Arras Flying Services Memorial. 30 October was deemed by the official history to be the heaviest day of air fighting of the First World War.
