Christmas card from RAF Amman, No. 14 Squadron, 1930s
No. 14 Squadron produced this Christmas card, which featured an aerial view of RAF Amman and Fairey Gordon Mk. 2 (K3992) in flight.
The squadron badge, approved in 1937, is shown on the front of the card. The Emir Abdullah of Transjordan suggested the Arabic motto, which is extracted from the Koran: ‘I spread my wings and keep my promise’. No. 14 Squadron served in the Middle East for 20 years from 1920. From its bases at Ramleh and Amman, the squadron flew aerial patrols in support of ground operations.
