Translation of message dropped by German air force to RAF in Middle East relating to prisoners, 1918

Leutnants Walter Hauck and Ludwig Haugg were shot down by Second Lieutenant A. Lloyd Fleming of No.111 Squadron on 2 January 1918 over Ramleh in modern day Israel.

Ludwing Haug was killed in the combat and Hauck suffered gun shot wounds to the chest as well as injuries to his collar bone and nose. It was not unusual for messages to be dropped over the lines concerning the capture or loss of aircrews. A number of messages were traded between the Germans and British regarding the capture of Walter Hauck. Hauck had a colourful post-war career as a racing driver, industrialist, anti-Nazi activist and British Agent.
