These special orders provide an overview of the situation in the Mediterranean theatre in April and May 1945. In April 1945, the special order indicates that Allied forces are on the verge of victory in Europe and this is realised in the second order dated 2 May 1945 which underlines the impact of the victory in the Italian campaign, this being the liberation of Italy from German forces.
