RAF Transport Command was active from 25 March 1943 to 1 August 1967. The command controlled all of the Royal Air Force's transport aircraft.
Throughout its existence Transport Command supervised many groups, wings and other units. During the Second World War, a significant amount of its operational output concerned the ferrying of aircraft to operational units and later, the dropping of paratroops. The Command was also significantly active in the 1950s and 1960s carrying out a wide range of varied tasks, for example. evacuating personnel and casualties in conflicts such as the Suez Crisis and Malayan Emergency as well as the movement of supplies and carrying out special flights.
