Memoranda concerning provision of spectators' enclosures during the visit to RAF Thorney Island by HM Queen Elizabeth II, July 1964
This memoranda contains instructions to be followed by Officers' families and civilian staff in preparation for a visit to RAF Thorney Island by the Queen.
RAF Thorney island is located in West Sussex, close to the cities of Chichester and Portsmouth. The site was under the control of RAF Coastal Command from 1938 to 1944, with the airfield being attacked during the Battle of Britain on 18 August 1940. Squadrons of the Fleet Air Arm were also present at the airfield during and after Coastal Command's stint of managing the site. The site is now under the control of the Royal Artillery.
