During 1942, No. 455 (Royal Australian Air Force) Squadron operated Handley Page Hampden Mark 1 bombers from Wigsley. Crews detailed for operations on 2 April are listed on this sheet.

On a minelaying mission that night, the crew of P5325 were lost without trace. The crew of AE291 were killed during a raid on Essen several days later, on the night of 10/11 April 1942. Around half of Bomber Command aircrew were killed on operations during the Second World War.
