601 Squadron salver, 1933
MRAF Sir Dermot Boyle presented this salver to No. 601 Squadron, when he was its adjutant, in April 1933. It features its winged sword emblem, symbolising its connection with London.
No. 601 (County of London) Squadron was founded at Northolt in 1925 as part of the Auxiliary Air Force, a civilian corps of paid volunteers. The salver was used at ceremonial occasions until the squadron disbanded in 1957. MRAF Sir Dermot Boyle was the first Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Air Force Museum, serving from 1965 to 1974.
