Stuart Douglas Culley was a Canadian who joined the Royal Naval Air Service in 1917. He transferred to the RAF in 1918 and on 10 August 1918 gained fame by taking off from a towed lighter in a Sopwith Camel and shooting down German Zeppelin L53. He had a long career, serving in the Baltic, Iraq, Palestine and India between the two world wars before retiring in 1945.
