Gallantry Cross of Sergeant Norman Charles Davies
Norman Davies was one of only seven recipients of the Air Defence Cadet Corps (ADCC) Gallantry Cross. He was praised for the leadership he showed during two demonstrations of courage and disregard for personal safety during the London Blitz in 1940.
The ADCC was a forerunner of today’s Air Training Corps, and was set up in 1938 to provide boys, with an interest in joining the RAF, education and practical instruction in aviation-related subjects. In one incident in Ilford, east London, when high explosive and incendiary bombs exploded causing casualties and fires, Davies and his fellow cadets fought fires and attended to casualties, removing the injured and deceased from the immediate area.
