Officer's Jacket Badge, Ptn 1925
‘A’ jacket badges were worn on the lapel by Officers serving in the Auxiliary Air Force. Unlike the embroidered Other Ranks badge, the Officer’s badge was made of gilded metal.
In 1923, the Salisbury Committee’s interim report emphasised the need for a strong Home Defence Air Force comprised of 52 squadrons, effectively bolstering Britain’s aerial power by 34 squadrons. The subsequent 1924 Auxiliary Air Force and Air Force Reserve Act, which was primarily interested in training pilots, established 6 Auxiliary squadrons over the following year.
