Rangoon Liberator (Special Edition) 1945
Special edition of the Rangoon Liberator, 15 August 1945.
This special edition of the Rangoon Liberator was produced to mark the surrender of Japan on 15 August 1945. 15 August is the official date for V-J Day or Victory over Japan Day in the United Kingdom. Rangoon or as it is now known, Yangon, was the capital of Burma (modern day Myanmar). Burma was under British rule prior to the start of the Second World War. Japan invaded in December 1941 and by May 1942 after a significantly protracted grapple with British, Indian and Chinese forces for control of the region, they had seized Rangoon and consequently occupied Burma. The conflict continued in Burma following this until May 1945, by which time, allied forces had finally managed to drive out the majority of Japanese forces.
