Aircrew Helmet Mark 3A

The Mk 3A and 3B helmets used the helmet shell of the Mk 2 and the visor track of the Mk 1A. They were originally supposed to be worn on aircraft without ejection seats but this restriction appears to have been overturned or widely ignored.

Officer's Gold Aiguillette, Ptn 1925

These aiguillettes were worn by Sir Dermot Alexander Boyle as part of his ceremonial dress uniform. The plain and braided gold cords are looped around the right shoulder and drawn together in the front, just under the jacket lapel.

Webbing Paste

Pilot Officer Cyril Barton’s Service Dress Jacket

The Officer's, 1920 Pattern, Service Dress Jacket of Pilot Officer Cyril Barton. Barton was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions during the notorious raid on Nuremberg on 30/31 March 1944.

Consolidated Liberator B.VIII

Although often overshadowed by the B-17 Flying Fortress, the American B-24 Liberator was built in greater numbers than any other US military aircraft and served with distinction in both war and peace. It also played a major role in service with the RAF.

Philco-Ford AIM-9L Sidewinder Air-to-Air Missile

A short-range passive Infra-Red homing heat-seeking air-to-air missile carried offensively and for self-defence. Named after the Sidewinder snake, which also detects its prey via body heat. Developed by the U.S Navy from the late 1940s, with the first successful firing in September 1953. Production of the AIM-9L began in 1977.

The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress dropped more bombs than any other US aircraft in the Second World War, and was the main bomber of the United States Army Air Forces in Europe in the Second World War.
