Fieseler Fi 103 V-1 Flying Bomb

This example of a V-1 flying bomb was captured intact by the British at the end of the war. V-1s were launched from sites in France towards South East England from 13 June 1944 and against targets in the Midlands and the North of England. Nearly 9,000 were launched, killing around 6,000 people.

24-cylinder double-vee inverted in-line piston engine, retaining part of engine nacelle and mounted on substantial metal stand. Consists of two DB 605 engines joined together.

Vickers Wellington B Mk X

This Wellington was constructed in 1944 and served with No. 1 Air Navigation Training School between 1949 and 1953. It was not operational in the Second World War but represents the role played in the bombing campaign against Germany. It is one of only two Wellingtons to survive into the present day.

Short Stirling Mk III

This Stirling served with No. 1651 Heavy Conversion Unit, where new aircrew gained the skills to fly heavy bombers. It crashed during a training flight in the Pennines on the night of 18–19 October 1944.

V-2 / A4 Rocket

This example of a V-2 supersonic ballistic missile was assembled by the British at the end of the war. Made from captured parts, it was used in research and evaluation work. V-2s were mainly used against targets in Belgium as well as South East England.

de Havilland Ghost 50

The Ghost was the second jet engine to be produced by de Haviland, and was a scaled up version of the earlier Goblin. Ghosts equipped aircraft types including the de Havilland Vampire and Comet.

De Havilland Goblin 35

The Goblin engine, designed by Frank Halford, and the first jet engine to be produced by de Havilland. Goblins equipped some variants of the Gloster Meteor as well as the de Havilland Vampire.
