Alistair Morrison photographed Group Captain John ‘Paddy’ Hemingway DFC AE (17 July 1919 - 17 March 2025) in 2023, at age 104, honouring him as the last surviving Battle of Britain pilot.

Studies of Contrails by Rudolf Sauter, watercolour and chalk on paper

These four studies of aircraft contrails come from a body of drawings of the subject which Rudolf Sauter made in October 1940 during the Battle of Britain. Later, he also depicted iridescent watercolours of Fighter Command aircraft flying at dawn.

This print published by the National Gallery was lithographically produced at the Curwen Press after Paul Nash's major oil painting, 'The Battle of Britain' (1941, Imperial War Museums). This was one of four ambitious, large-scale war pictures Nash painted for the Ministry of Information (MOI) as an Official War Artist.
