No. 603 Squadron was a squadron of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force, a reserve component of the RAF comprised of civilians designed to reinforce the RAF. They were one of 20 squadrons incorporated into the RAF at the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939.

A Bristol Blenheim Mk I, of No. 62 Squadron in flight. This photograph was taken whilst Arthur Stewart King Scarf was with No. 62 Squadron. As a pilot in 1941, Squadron Leader Scarf was the only member of the RAF to be awarded the Victoria Cross for service in East Asia during the Second World War.
